McMaster vs. Queens Sept 15, 2007

Kingston, ON - Queen's University tailback, Mike Giffin (Kinston, ON) had three touchdowns leading the No. 10 ranked Queen’s Golden Gaels to a 24-20 come-from-behind victory over the No. 9 McMaster Marauders, Saturday at Richardson Stadium. Early in the fourth quarter, with the Gaels trailing McMaster 20-9, Queen’s drove down the field wtih Giffin capping the drive on third and goal from the one-yard line to make the score 20-16. With 8:19 remaining in the fourth, Gaels Quarterback Danny Brannagan (Burlington, ON) connected with Giffin on a nifty nine-yard pass to put the Gaels up for good 23-20. Giffin, a fourth-year running back collected his third consecutive game with 100-plus-yards running posting a total of 115-yards on 20 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also tallied four receptions with 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns. McMaster conceded a single point with 4:50 left in the game to make the score 24-20. Queen’s linebacker Paul Boshyk (Etobicoke, ON) sealed the Gaels victory with under a minute left in the game by intercepting McMaster QB Adam Archibald. Queen’s first touchdown was a 74-yard screen pass by Brannagan to Giffin which put Queen’s up 9-0. McMaster then rallied for 20 points with Archibald connecting for two consecutive touchdown passes. Archibald hit running back Ugonna Ihekwoaba (Burlington, ON) for a 31-yard pass and then completed an eight-yard pass to Rob Serviss (Waterloo, ON) for his second touchdown of the game. Archibald, starting his first game at Richardson stadium is his hometown of Kingston, completed 23 of 42 passes for 228 yards, two touchdowns and a late game interception. Rob Serviss was the top receiver on the afternoon with 9 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown. McMaster rushed for a season-high 138 yards with Ugonna Ihekwoaba carrying the ball 6 times for 47 yards and Jermaine Decosta gaining 38 yards on 7 carries. Queen’s Quarterback, Brannagan was 17 for 29 and 273 yards while Robb Bagg of Kingston was Queen’s top receiver with 8 receptions and 89 yards. Queen’s received strong defensive play from fifth year senior, DJ Mulholland (Kingston, ON) who had 9 tackles out of the linebacker position. McMaster was lead defensively by McMaster first year player, Mitchell Heighway (London, ON) a Civil engineering student, getting the start on the offensive line with 6 tackles. Jason Arakgi (Oakville, ON), who has been solid all season had 5 tackles. McMaster will play their next game on Saturday September 22, 2007 as they take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at Ivor Wynne stadium at 1:00 P.M.
