Shirley Plantation

After 5 times down in this area, Deb and I finally got to tour a plantation. I have to admit that it was very interesting. We visited the Shirley Plantation which is located 20 miles outside of Williamsburg. The plantation was an original grant of 4,000 acres from the Crown. The original grantee never set foot on the property and it was sold soon after 1613 to another family and for eleven generations has been with the Carter family. The Carter still live there in the big house pictured above on the 2nd and 3rd floors which are off limits to the tour.

The smaller out building you see is the kitchen, the inside of which you see pictured.

Yet another out building in front of the big house is the store house from inside of which I took the bottom pic looking out at the main home.
